Cairngorms NP IUCN Category

IUCN Protected Area Management Categories classify protected areas according to their management objectives. The Cairngorms National Park was designated in 2003 the IUCN Protected Areas Category: 5 - Protected landscape (sustainable development area).

In some parts of the UK the winter freeze has been followed by reports of dead amphibians. We do not know if there has been any problem for amphibians in Badenoch and Strathspey and we and the Highland Biological Recording Group would like to hear of any usual records of dead fish and amphibians discovered when the thaw starts. We know our toads suffer mortality on the road but have they and other amphibians been troubled by winter ice?
